Extreme paradises

Have you ever read about the sky resort in Dubai? It is an artificial construction which brings the possibility of enjoying winter sports such skiing or snowboarding into the middle of the desert. This huge construction recreates a winter scenario on extreme temperatures conditions. Ski Dubai has several slopes and the longest run is around half a kilometre. This resort brings the snow to the desert, removing the need to take a plane to cold places among the Earth in order to find the right spot to practice a winter sport.

Caribbean in Russia

Russian people have a similar simulation system, creating a beach place in the middle of the cold steppe. Using sun simulation and bringing sand from warmer places, this artificial location simulates the conditions of the Caribbean. People do not need to leave Russia to get a sun bath and to enjoy a worm swim into the little Russian Caribbean.

Why should people go to a solarium when they can enjoy almost a beach? It is true that the experience sure is not the same than lying under the natural sun over natural sand, but when you can save lot of money and lot of hours on the trip, the trade off is not so bad.

People are demanding more and more the possibility of doing things which normally does not belong to the place where they live. Is that sustainable? Maybe we should study the contamination and pollution produced by an artificial skiing resort versus the contamination produced by lot of planes flying to a cold place in Alaska or northern Europe.

Rich countries can afford such eccentricities and, if you would be in their shoes, will not you do the same? Money was made for being spent, to enjoy and to buy happiness, does not matter the price.
